2. Second Kalima Shahadat (Testimony)
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُهُ
میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ اکیلا ہے اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں، اور میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اس کے بندے اور رسول ہیں۔
Ash-hadu Al-laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wahdahoo Laa Shareeka Lahoo Wa-Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan ‘Abduhoo Wa Rasooluhu.
English Translation: I bear witness that there is no God except Allah, He is One and has no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.
The Second Kalima Shahadat is the testimony of a Muslim’s faith. By reciting it, a believer confirms Tawheed and acknowledges Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ. The 6 Kalimas in English help Muslims, especially non-Arabic speakers, understand this declaration clearly. It is the foundation of Imaan and the first step in accepting Islam. Muslims teach their children this Kalma as part of Islamic education.
What is the Importance of the Second Kalima (Shahadat)?
The Second Kalima is called the Shahadat or “testimony of faith.” It expresses the most important belief in Islam – Tawheed, the Oneness of Allah. Tawheed means that Allah is One (Al-Ahad) and has no partner.
The Shahada is mentioned many times in the Quran and Hadith, and it is the foundation of Islam. When a Muslim recites the Second Kalima, they declare three things:
That Allah is the only true God, and Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.
That they fully accept and believe this truth in their heart.
That they are ready to follow the teachings and duties of Islam in their life.
There are a total of Six Kalimas in Islam, memorized by millions of Muslims around the world. These Kalimas explain the basic beliefs of faith and are often taught to children from a young age, so they can benefit from them throughout their lives.
Importance of Second Kalima (Shahadat) According to Hadith:
Narrated ‘Umar (rad): Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “If one after performing ablution completely recites the following supplication: (Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu) ‘I testify that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, He is Alone and has no partner and Muhammad (ﷺ) is his slave and Messenger’, all the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through any gate he wishes”. Bulugh al-Maram 57
حضرت عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے: رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: “جو شخص مکمل طور پر وضو کرنے کے بعد یہ دعا پڑھے:
(أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ)
’میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں، وہ اکیلا ہے، اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں، اور میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد ﷺ اس کے بندے اور رسول ہیں، تو جنت کے آٹھوں دروازے اس کے لیے کھول دیے جائیں گے، اور وہ جس دروازے سے چاہے داخل ہو سکتا ہے۔
It was narrated that Abu Mahdhurah said: The Messenger of Allah taught me the Adhan with nineteen phrases and the Iqamah with seventeen. The Adhan is:
Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya ‘alal-salah, Hayya ‘alal-salah; Hayya ‘alal-falah, Hayya ‘alal-falah; Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallah. Sunan Ibn Majah 709
Translation: Allah is the Most great, Allah is the most Great, Allah is the most Great, Allah is the most Great; I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Come to the Prayer, Come to the Prayer; Come to the prosperity, Come to the prosperity; Allah is the Most great, Allah is the Most Great; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.
