6th Kalima Radde Kufr (Rejecting Disbelief)

English Translation: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly. I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know. I repent from it, and I disown disbelief, polytheism, lies, backbiting, innovation, slander, indecency, falsehood, and all sins. I accept Islam and declare that there is no God but Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger.

Importance of the 6th Kalima (Radd-e-Kufr):
The sixth Kalima, also known as Radd-e-Kufr or Radde Kuffer, means the words of rejecting disbelief.
This Kalima explains the serious Islamic concept of kufr. In simple terms, kufr means denying or rejecting the truth of Islam – in other words, not believing in Allah or the message of Islam.
The word kufr itself comes from the meaning “to hide” or “to conceal.” A kafir is therefore someone who hides or denies the truth – the truth being Tawheed, that Allah is One, the only God, and that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger.
There are different types of kufr that Muslims should understand:
Denial and Rejection – refusing to believe in the heart and openly rejecting faith.
Turning away in arrogance – the example is Iblees (Shaytan). In Surah Al-Noor (24:47) Allah mentions those who claim faith but turn away in disobedience, showing they are not true believers.
Kufr of Hypocrisy – when someone pretends to be a believer outwardly but hides disbelief in their heart.
Kufr of Doubt – when a person is unsure, hesitant, or says “I don’t know.” This is similar to agnosticism, where one neither accepts nor denies belief in God.
The Qur’an highlights these different types of Kufr in several places. Here are a few examples that every Muslim should know and reflect on while striving to learn Quran with Tajweed and understand its true meaning.
“But verily, a party of them conceal the truth while they know it”
Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 146
“… except Iblees (Satan), he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers (disobedient to Allaah)”
Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 34
“And they belied them (those Ayat) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof”
Surah Al-Naml Ayah 14
The sixth Kalima should be learned and said by those who understand the dangers of Kufr and want to protect themselves from committing shirk (associating others alongside Allah).
Hadith references on Kufr:
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If a man says to his brother, O Kafir (disbeliever)!’ Then surely one of them is such (i.e., a Kafir). Sahih al-Bukhari 6103
Narrated `Abdullah: When the Verse:–“It is those who believe and do not confuse their belief with wrong ( i.e. joining others in worship with Allah” (6.83) was revealed, we said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Who is there amongst us who has not done wrong to himself?” He replied, “It is not as you say, for ‘wrong’ in the Verse and ‘do not confuse their belief, with wrong means ‘SHIRK’ (i.e. joining others in worship with Allah). Haven’t you heard Luqman’s saying to his son, ‘O my son! Join not others in worship with Allah, verily joining others in worship with Allah is a great wrong indeed.” (31.13)
From this, we understand the seriousness of kufr, as it is the opposite of having strong Iman (faith), which is essential for every Muslim.
Allah reminds us in Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 153:
“O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayer. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.”
We ask Allah to bless us with patience, strength, and the ability to remain steadfast during trials and challenges.
Reciting the 6th Kalima is a way for a believer to show sincerity to Allah, seek His protection from kufr, and strengthen their Iman. Along with learning and practicing, joining Islamic Courses can also help Muslims deepen their knowledge and faith. May Allah increase our Iman and keep us among the guided. Ameen.
